Center Volunteer receives award from President George W. Bush

Doris Hickman, a volunteer for Jefferson City Day Care Center for 19 years, was recognized for her achievement by President Bush on Tuesday, April 11th. He met with Doris and honored her with the President's Volunteer Service Award. Doris volunteers through the Foster Grandparents Program and has worked more than 18,000 hours caring for the Center's children. The Foster Grandparent Program is part of Senior Corps, a network of National Service Programs that provides older Americans the opportunity to put their life experiences to work for local communities. Foster Grandparents serve as mentors, tutors and caregivers for at-risk children and youth with special needs. The program operates through a variety of community organizations, including schools, hospitals and correctional institutions. Congratulations Doris!
